Environmental and Workplace Noise Assessment

Environmental Noise

As entertainment industry specialists, we at tsg are aware of the increasing number of complaints being received by local authorities (EHO), regarding noise from licensed premises. On receipt of such complaints councils are, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, obliged to investigate. As well as jeopardising licenses, complaints which are upheld can result in fines of up to £20,000, if issued Notices are not fully complied with.

tsg has qualified staff who can handle all aspects of noise management from Entertainment License assessment, through system design and if necessary, liaison and negotiation with local authority officers.

tsg Services include: Environmental noise assessment (PPG24) Noise surveys New system and remedial control design and implementation Expert witness services, including written representations, attendance of planning and licensing appeals, courts of law and public enquiries. Entertainment License assessments IPPC noise assessment Environmental noise monitoring

Noise at Work

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, requires employers to prevent or reduce the risk to employee health and safety, from noise exposure. Where amplified music is played, it is very easy for staff to be exposed to limits in excess of those prescribed by the legislation. Although licensed premises have benefited from an extended ‘amnesty’, it now seems likely that local authorities will start to rigorously enforce this safety legislation, as they have in other industries.

To avoid injury to staff and the potential prosecution/litigation; an employer should be able to demonstrate that they have done the following: taken action to reduce noise exposure that produces risk to health and safety, provided hearing protection where needed, provided information and training to staff, carried out proper noise risk assessments.

tsg services include:

Personal Noise Exposure assessment reports Workplace Noise assessments and reports Noise at Work Training Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) appropriate specification and advice

Weird Fish choose tsg

Ego Restaurants

This restaurant chain is one of our favourites, so being asked to design a musical personality for this growing brand was a labour of love for our music programming team. Established in 1997, this Mediterranean-style restaurant group has grown to nine restaurants across the North West and Midlands. And because they are being run by the management team which built up the La Tasca chain, we are confident that you will see more and more of this brand in years to come.

Using predominantly fresh and locally sourced produce, the Mediterranean inspired menu offers quality casual dining for their many visitors. Aimed squarely at the over-40’s who don’t want to have to go into the city centre to find a decent restaurant, the Ego brand is to be found in affluent suburban areas and provides quality casual dining with table service.

Their strategic watchword is loveliness – from the moment you step inside any of their restaurants you will feel like you have entered a little oasis away from the stresses of daily life. It’s in the decor, it’s in the menus and it’s in their people.

The Ego concept isn’t new or unique; in fact they have borrowed it from the millions of people who live throughout the Mediterranean and who believe that it is important to make time to enjoy a good meal with friends and family. That’s one of the most valued traditions of the Mediterranean culture, something that’s enabled generations of people to find a good work-life balance and to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The philosophy is very simple. Ego restaurants are about great food, a relaxed atmosphere and a wonderful dining experience – perfect for everything from a quick lunch to a four-course dinner. All of their dishes are cooked fresh to order using only the very best ingredients. Wherever possible they will buy local, organic produce and their menus always make the most of whatever is in season. This means that there steaks are a little juicier, their salads a little crisper and their desserts a little sweeter.

Musically they naturally wanted the personality of the brand to come alive and connect with the customer. So our music programming teams visited the restaurants and created a musical signature that blended Latin jazz, modern Flamenco and Latin chill-out tracks to support all of their trading needs.

Cinema De Lux

Setting an appropriate ambience for a new brand is as rewarding as it is challenging, and we were proud to receive a call from US-based National Amusements who have invested in the development of a new entertainment concept called Showcase Cinema De Lux, a next generation version of their Showcase cinema brand.

It opened the doors of its first Cinema De Lux to the public on 5th September 2008 and the 12 screen facility is Leicester’s first city-centre multiplex and offers cinemagoers much more than just a movie, combining the latest films and special programming with contemporary dining, impeccable service and a full range of distinctive amenities. National Amusements is transforming the movie-going experience with this unique concept, making their cinemas a community entertainment destination for everyone to enjoy. The 11 standard auditoria features wall-to-wall screens with the added luxury of custom designed deep cushioned, rocking recliner seats arranged in a stadium style to ensure cinemagoers an unobstructed view of the screen. For the ultimate in luxury, guests can enjoy the Directors Hall, a premium auditorium featuring Ultra Leather loveseats, reserved seating, and exclusive access to the Directors Lounge where guests can indulge in dinner and drinks before or after the movie. The Directors Lounge menu offers a wide variety of food from entrees to appetizers, speciality cocktails and a full service bar.

The cinema also features the Studio One restaurant and bar offering an internationally influenced menu, a full service bar, and special children’s menu. The comfortable surroundings of Studio One provide the perfect place for guests to enjoy dinner before or after a movie, catering to parties of all sizes. Customer service is a fundamental part of the Cinema de Lux philosophy and the Elite Services team offers a concierge service – on hand to respond to virtually any guest need. Cinema de Lux features the latest sound and projection technology including Dolby Digital Sound as well as full digital 3D projection capability in several auditoria. Guests can also take advantage of reserved seating throughout the complex via online booking and the ability to print tickets at home.
Our role in this main event was to provide appropriate musical signatures throughout all of the public areas; from auditoria to eating and drinking. Our music programming team met the brief with a discerning mix of recognisable tracks from the 1980’s onwards, chart hits from 2000 onwards and a sophisticated blend of classic and contemporary artists to promote familiarity and a  non-challenging audio experience. Playback comes courtesy of our popular promedia AMS hard disk system.
